What we collect, why, and what we never do with your data. Short, clear, no dark patterns.
What we collect
When you book a stay, we collect your name, email, phone number, mailing address, and credit card information (processed through Campspot, our PCI-compliant booking provider — we never see your full card number). When you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect your email address and your IP for fraud protection.
We also collect anonymized analytics through Google Analytics 4 and standard server logs (pages visited, time on site, device type, referring URL) to understand how the site is used.
What we do with it
- Reservation data is used to manage your stay — check-in, charges, communication about your booking, and (with permission) future marketing.
- Newsletter data is used to send you the monthly newsletter and occasional booking-related updates. That's it.
- Analytics data is used in aggregate to improve the website. We do not sell, share, or rent it.
Cookies
We use first-party cookies for site functionality (the sticky booking widget remembers your collapse preference, for example) and third-party cookies from Google Analytics and Meta Pixel (when ad campaigns are running). See the Cookie Policy for the full list.
Third parties
We use the following services to operate the campground and this website:
- Campspot — reservations and payment processing
- Mailchimp — newsletter delivery
- Google Analytics 4 — site usage analytics
- Google Tag Manager — tag deployment
- Meta Pixel — ad campaign measurement (only when campaigns are running)
- Cloudflare — security and performance
- Stripe via Campspot — payment processing
Each of these has its own privacy policy. We've chosen them because they meet our standards for data protection.
Your rights
You can email doug@islandcreekcampground.com at any time to:
- Request a copy of the personal data we have on you
- Ask us to correct it
- Ask us to delete it (subject to NC tax and booking-record laws — typically 7 years for financial records)
- Opt out of marketing communications (also via the unsubscribe link in every email)
Children
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The website is intended for adults booking on behalf of families.
Data security
We use SSL on every page, strong password hashing on our admin accounts, and require our third-party processors (Campspot, Stripe) to meet PCI-DSS standards.
Updates to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be emailed to active newsletter subscribers.
